Hill Walking And Cycling

cyclingBallymalone cottage lies on the south flanks of the Arra mountains. Step outside and not only do you have lovely views of the countryside but if you are in the mood for walking you can step it out along the Lough Derg Way which passes outside.

This section of the Way follows a very quiet, narrow country road along which you can climb slowly to the top of Tountinna. As you walk along or cycle if you wish, you can stop to admire at different points the river Shannon, the towns of Killaloe/Ballina that lie behind you and the tranquil valley scene that lies beside you.

The summit of Tountinna offers a panoramic view of Lough Derg and the counties that surround it. Here one might take a rest and perhaps a picnic though it can be blowy.

One might continue along the way or return back down to explore the pretty town of killaloe , its hilly, old shop fronted street guarded at each end by churches each containing very interesting artifacts.

Wander along either bank of the river and see the vestiges of Killaloe’s past as a river port.
One way or another you will find something to interest you there.
